Official admission to the NHL structures was approved by the Board of Governors on December 4, 2018. Seattle's entry into the NHL was facilitated by Seattle Hockey Partners, led by majority owner David Bonderman, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and president and CEO Tod Leiweke. However, the original entry date of 2020 was missed due to the longer reconstruction of the hall, so it was subsequently moved to 2021. The entire reconstruction was supposed to cost around 600 million dollars, but the total costs were much higher. For the city itself, this is the first top professional club since 2008, when the basketball SuperSonics were moved from the city.
